  Brief Profile  

Shamas-ur-Rehman Toor was born in Pakpattan on February 02, 1981. After his initial schooling at Pakpattan, he went to the University of Engineering and Technology where he earned his Bachelors in Civil Engineering. He initially worked in NESPAK and then went on to pursue M. Eng. (Construction Management) at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand. Quest for knowledge took him to the National University of Singapore (NUS) where he finished writing his PhD. thesis in July 2008. Currently he resides in Singapore and works in the NUS as a Research Fellow. He has won several scholarships (UET Merit Scholarship, King of Thailand Scholarship and NUS Research Scholarship) and awards (Top Student Award, AIT Most Appreciated Student Award, NUS President Fellowship Award). He has held several elected offices such as Vice-President and President of the AIT Student Union. He believes in empowerment of women and the disadvantaged, free media, and equal opportunities for education and employment. His life goals are to work for eradication of poverty, elevation of standard of living, sustainable development, and reform of politics in Pakistan.
