Youth Parliament of Pakistan: Inaugural Session
Youth Parliament embraces the revival of students’ unions.

Islamabad, September 20, 2008: A Resolution proposed by Mr. Syed Ansar Hussain (YP12-NA01), amended by Nishat Kazmi (YP20-PUNJAB01) was adopted today maintaining the collapse of coalition between two major political parties as a matter of grave concern for pro-democratic forces. It was decided that all resources must be devoted to good governance and for the continuity of practical and democratic process in order to strengthen the Federation.

Prime Minister, Ahmed Ali Babar (YP21-PUNJAB02), announced to bestow two Standing Committees, Education, Health and Environment and Economics and Finance, to the opposition thus upholding the tradition of democracy. A call to attention notice was also submitted, on the recurring menace of polio epidemic and was referred to the Health Committee.

A comprehensive debate on Students’ Unions continued from yesterday and was referred to Education Committee for further notice; members stressed on smooth revival of students’ unions devoid of the smothering influence of political parties.

A resolution proposed by Mr. Waqar Nayyar (YP05Balochistan03) met intense debate as members of both parties gave their opinions on the question of seeking foreign assistance for provision of tangible economic and educational opportunities to the youth of tribal areas to help combat terrorism. The house remained divided on the nature of US relations at the backdrop of ongoing operation; while the Blue Party sought to keep the US ticket in hand, the Green party supported the notion of point-blank condemnation of US, and asserted that aid must not be sought from the aggressors. There was a general agreement on the inclusion of un-biased foreign actors as donors in the development aid, who are acceptable to the recipient province and the people of Pakistan, at large. Some suggested donors were Muslim Countries, China and other unbiased players in the contentious War on Terror. The debate was still in process at the time of adjournment.

Standing Committees were also formed and their chairpersons were duly elected; later their meetings were held in accordance with the schedule of today’s session.
