Islamabad,
February 17, 2009: Youth Parliament of Pakistan 2008-09, a PILDAT
initiative, is holding its third session starting from
Wednesday, February 18 till Sunday, February 22, 2009. The
session will take place at Islamabad. While discussing key
topics such as Situation in Balochistan, Extremism and
Terrorism and Pak-US Relation, the Youth Parliament has
invited speakers such as Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed,
Chairman of Foreign Relations Committee & Former Chairman of
Senate Sub-Committee on Balochistan, to speak on the
Situation in Balochistan; Syed Talat Hussain,
Executive Director, News and Current Affairs, Aaj TV to speak
on the subject of Terrorism and Extremism and
Ambassador Tariq Fatemi, Former Ambassador of Pakistan to
the US & EU, to discuss Pak-US Relations. This session, Youth
Parliament is also launching Crisis Simulation Exercise for
members of the Youth Parliament similar to those held for
members of the Parliament at National Defence University. For
this Brigadier Badar Munir, Former Directing Staff
Research, Institute of Strategic Studies; Research and
Analysis (ISSRA), National Defense University (NDU), would be
acting as Observer and assisting the Secretariat and the
Moderator of Crisis Simulation, Mr. Rizwan Zeb,
Research Analyst, Islamabad. Mr.
Wazir Ahmed Jogezai, Former Deputy Speaker National
Assembly of Pakistan, has graciously agreed to preside
over the 5-day session.
Daily
proceedings of the Youth Parliament Pakistan will be aired on
Geo TV network, exclusive partner of PILDAT for Youth
Parliament Pakistan.
Beginning
from this session, Crisis Simulation Exercise will be
conducted in each of the remaining three sessions for a batch
of 15 MYPs to cover all members of this term on parity basis.
In the summer of 2009, selected members of the Youth
Parliament Pakistan will also undertake a Study Tour to the
British Parliament.
Youth
Parliament Pakistan (YPP) is a platform of Pakistani Youth
patterned after the National Assembly of Pakistan. This term
64 members from all over the country are part of Youth
Parliament Pakistan 2008-09. The Youth Parliament has a
one-year term and meets for 30 days over 5 sessions in
Islamabad. The Youth Parliament has its own 2-party system,
Leaders of the House and Opposition, a Cabinet,
a Shadow Cabinet and Parliamentary Committees.
Prime minister of Pakistan, Chairman Senate, Chief Justice of
Pakistan, British Secretary of State for Foreign and
Commonwealth Affairs, Federal Ministers and political leaders
have previously addressed the Youth Parliament Pakistan 2007.
Conceived,
created and facilitated by PILDAT, the Youth Parliament
Pakistan also has an independent Steering Committee that
overseas the selection process and working of Youth
Parliament. The Steering Committee includes notable persons
such as Senator S. M. Zafar, Chairman Youth Parliament
Steering Committee & Chairman Senate Functional Committee on
Human Rights; Mr. Wazir Ahmed Jogezai, Member; Former
Deputy Speaker, National Assembly of Pakistan; Mr. Faisal
Karim Kundi, MNA, Member, Deputy Speaker National Assembly
of Pakistan; Dr. Donya Aziz, MNA, Member; Engr.
Khuram Dastgir Khan, MNA; Member; Mr. Kabir Sabar,
