Islamabad, May 08, 2009: Youth Parliament Pakistan has
strongly supported the Government of Pakistan’s resolve to
fight militancy throughout the country and the military action
against insurgents in Swat. In a resolution jointly adopted by
the House, the Youth Parliament asked the nation to extend its
complete moral support to the Government and the Armed Forces
in fighting militancy throughout Pakistan.
The
session, which was focused otherwise on the role of the media,
discussed the role of the media and stressed on
‘responsibility’ alongside the freedom of the media. Mr.
Ahsan Iqbal, MNA and Secretary Information PML-N, who was the
Guest Speaker in today’s session, spoke on the topic of “Role
of Media in Pakistan” and said that while technology has
opened up unprecedented outlets for us today, there is a dire
need of critical and creative thinking in youth so that they
can discriminate between right and wrong.
Mr. Ahmed
Noor
(YP08-FATA01) Chairman
Youth Parliament Standing Committee on Information presented
the Youth Media Policy in the House today. The key highlights
of the media policy are demand for the inclusion of Journalist
in PEMRA management; strict action to ban the illegal radio
stations and live telecasting of entire proceeding of the
National Assembly sessions.
Another
resolution moved by Mr. Allah Ditta Tahir (YP34-PUNJAB15) and
jointly adopted by the house demanded that media should avoid
indulging in sensationalism at the cost of the national
interest. In another resolution moved by Mr. Abdullah Zaidi
(YP53-SINDH05) the ‘propaganda’ against Pakistan by Western
media was condemned. Pakistan’s media, while upholding the
values of freedom and truth, also has the responsibility to
project a realistic picture of Pakistan and not follow in the
footsteps of the western media which slants negatively any
news from Pakistan.
